Welcome to Third Grade!
Third graders can look forward to an exciting school year filled with many new experiences. These experiences include using science and social studies textbooks for the first time. The students will also become much more independent workers.
We are continuing with the Open Court reading program this year. It incorporates all of the language arts aspects (phonics, spelling, grammar, writing, and reading) into one block. This will aid in making the connections for the students that are so vital to their learning.
Again this year, we will be using Saxon Math with the third graders. Last year's third graders had some awesome math skills.
Character development is an integral part of our curriculum. There are six traits we focus on (trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, caring, citizenship, and fairness). Once we've covered them, we refer to them all year long and continue to reinforce these traits. This makes up our Social Studies lessons for the beginning of the year.
Education doesn't involve just the academics. In third grade, we focus on the children as individuals, aiding them in any way we can. . |
