Sidney High School Esports
Sidney High School operates a highly competitive, state-recognized esports program. Our teams compete across multiple titles, including Rocket League, Overwatch, Super Smash Bros., Valorant, and Marvel Rivals.
Championship Legacy & Achievements
Over recent seasons, Sidney High School has built an impressive record of success across state, regional, and national levels:
State Championships: Our Overwatch program has secured 3 out of the past 4 Montana state championships, alongside back-to-back state titles in Super Smash Bros.
Regional & Playoff Competition: Competing in the PlayVs Mountain Time Zone league against large regional schools across Arizona, Utah, and Colorado, our Overwatch 2 team finished 5–3, making program history by advancing to the PlayVs Playoffs and securing an 8th-place finish out of 68 teams. In the same league, our Super Smash Bros. team placed 19th out of 48 teams (4–4 record), and Rocket League placed 39th out of 72 teams (3–5 record).
National Stage: Sidney High School Esports has earned invitations to compete at the Amateur Esports Association (AEA) National Tournament on two separate occasions, achieving top national rankings of 7th and 10th in the country.
Annual State Tournament at University of Montana
Each year, the team travels to the University of Montana campus in Missoula for the Montana High School Championship Series. This annual trip gives student-athletes the opportunity to tour university facilities, experience collegiate gaming spaces like the Griz Esports Gaming Den, engage with university admissions counselors, and interact directly with collegiate coaches and student-athletes.
Workplace Competency Skills & Collegiate Pathways
Beyond gaming, Sidney High School Esports focuses on student development, career readiness, and postsecondary growth:
Workplace-Ready Skills: Participation emphasizes critical soft skills and career competencies, including communication, strategic problem-solving, decision-making, teamwork, and leadership. Academic eligibility is closely monitored, reinforcing discipline and classroom success.
Student Engagement: The program offers a supportive environment designed to engage students who may not otherwise participate in traditional high school athletics or extracurricular activities.
Collegiate Scholarships & Recruitment: The program connects graduating seniors with collegiate esports opportunities and scholarship pathways at institutions such as the University of Montana and North Dakota State College of Science.
